Come Meet Charlotte Jenkins, Gullah Cuisine author, on October 25th

Chef Charlotte Jenkins, author of Gullah Cuisine: by land and by sea will speak at the Friends of the Library author night, sharing her cookbook.

Southern Living, Gourmet Magazine, The New York Times, The Washington Post and the Boston Globe have praised her cooking. The Charleston City Paper consistently names her restaurant as serving the best soul food in the area. Jenkins learned to cook Gullah the way her mama, her grandmamma and all the mamas that have come before her did - by working alongside one another. She also trained at Johnson & Wales University in Charleston where she adapted the traditional recipes to be more healthful. In 1997 she and her husband, Frank, opened Gullah Cuisine on Rt 17 in Mount Pleasant.
