The Friends of the Daniel Island Library will sponsor the Daniel Island Harvest Tour of Homes on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013.  This event, now in its sixth year, is a fundraiser for the Daniel Island Library.

The Friends of the Library is a nonprofit organization of volunteers who work with the Berkeley County Libraries to promote library services and their contribution to our community.  Mary Ann Solberg and Vicki Danziger, co- chairs of the annual house tour, describe this event as a real win- win for Daniel Island. “Our House Tour lets us introduce many residents and visitors to beautiful Island homes and  local authors.  And we are supporting our wonderful library at the same time,” says Solberg.

Since the Harvest Tour of Homes began in 2008, it has raised over $60,000 for the Daniel Island Library.   Proceeds have been used for such items as additional computer workstations, furniture for the library and its much-utilized community meeting room, early literacy and general collection resources, a parking lot book drop, additional shelving, a display case for Island artifacts, and benches and a landscaping upgrade to the library grounds.  Last year’s tour has also made possible the creation of “Book Club Kits” – multiple copies of titles used by the many Daniel Island book clubs.  Because of ongoing budget cuts these purchases would not have been possible without the Tour of Homes.

The Sixth Annual Daniel Island Harvest Home Tour again features four varied homes.  Located in the Daniel Island Park neighborhood, the tour homes will feature an Island Park Drive cottage on the Beresford Creek golf course; a home that couples great views with unique architectural elements; a family home that reflects sustainability in building materials and furnishings; and an eco-friendly home featuring a pool, outdoor kitchen and a wine cellar.

As another feature of the event, each home will host a local author who will be signing copies of his or her books. This year’s authors are Graham Dailey, executive chef of Peninsula Grill, author of his new cookbook Served With Style; Holly Herrick, award winning cookbook author with her latest French Cook series book Éclairs and Cream Puffs; Brad Taylor, author of the latest Pike Logan thriller, Widow’s Strike, and Bob Welsh, author of the children’s Christmas book, The Story of Everdream.  The authors will sell and sign their books and will be on hand to lend a “literary” feel to the tour.

The homes will be open from 1-4 p.m. and may be visited in any order.  A map to the homes is provided in the ticket package.

Tickets cost $20 payable by cash or check in advance at these locations: Island Expressions on Daniel Island and at Zinnia in Mt. Pleasant. Tickets can also be obtained from House Tour committee members or by check payable to Friends of the DI Library to 121 Iron Bottom Lane, Daniel Island, SC 29492.   In addition, any remaining tickets will be available the day of the tour for $25 at the Daniel Island Library, 2301 Daniel Island Drive.  All proceeds of the Harvest Tour of Homes remain on the Island to enhance the Daniel Island Library and its resources.
