I "Heart" Art Fest Sangaree entry deadline extended!


Don't miss the entry deadline! All work for the grades 9 - 12 and adult art competitions must be physically brought to the Sangaree branch of the Berkeley County Library System on Friday, June 20, 2014 by 5:00 p.m. with a completed entry form to be eligible for the competition.

 


Entry Form


Entrants competing in the 9th - 12th grade and ages 18+ competitions must be able to deliver
artwork to the Sangaree Library (595 Sangaree Pkwy) by the deadline of Saturday, 6/14, at 5:00 pm.
All entrants competing in the 5th - 8th grade competition must be on-site Saturday, 6/21, to
complete their artwork.

JURIED COMPETITIONS

5th - 8th grade - It's a literary chalk-off! Show up on Saturday, 6/21, at 11 am to  compete (we’ll
provide the supplies). Use the chalk to re-create a scene inspired by one of your favorite books or
graphic novels.

9th - 12th grade - Do your favorite book justice by creating some awesome   cover art! You can use
any materials to create your 2-D representation. Artwork cannot be larger that 20" x  20."

18+ - This is a photography competition with the theme "Reading Berkeley County." Show us what this
means to you! Please do not submit any pieces larger than 8" x 10".

This competition is open to all residents of the Berkeley, Dorchester, and Charleston Counties in
South Carolina. All artwork must be original, created during 2014, and not in violation of any
local, state, or federal laws. If you have any questions, please call the Sangaree Library at

ELIGIBILITY:
All work for the grades 9 - 12 and adult art competitions must be physically brought
to the Sangaree branch of the Berkeley County Library System by 5 pm on Saturday, 6/14, to be eligible for the competition. Entrants must also complete an entry form, which is available online or in the library. Artwork cannot be shipped to the library for participation in the juried competition. All
entries must be from residents of the Lowcountry region of South Carolina. The art competition for
grades 5 - 12 will take place on the day of the event, and all work must be finished by 2:30 pm.
Please notify us of your plan to participate in any of the art competitions as soon as possible
because space is limited. Only one submission per person and no reproductions will be accepted. No
artwork displayed at the library as part of the competition can be listed as for sale while on
display; however, artists can leave their contact information with their displayed work. If you
would like to have your work displayed anonymously, please make a note on your entry form. 
 
JUDGING CRITERIA & PRIZE WINNER SELECTION: 
Preliminary judging will be done by a panel of judges chosen by BCLS, comprised of local authorities on art. The decisions of the judges are final and binding. 

PRIZE WINNER NOTIFICATION AND PRIZES:
On or near June 21, 2014, BCLS shall notify the selected winners. Notification shall be by e-mail, telephone, or public announcement. If BCLS is unable to contact a potential winner, or does not receive an acknowledgment of receipt from a potential winner within ten (10) days, or if the notification is returned as undeliverable, BCLS has the option to disqualify such potential winner and select an alternate winner. 
 
LEGAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS:
This juried competition is subject to all applicable federal, state, and local laws and
regulations. Artwork must not be copied, in part or wholly, from any published or copyrighted work.
Compositions from published photographs not taken by the artist or images derived from other
artists' work are not considered original and are not eligible. Any artwork that has been submitted
to other festivals or juried art competitions cannot be submitted to this juried competition.  As
an entrant in this juried competition, it is your responsibility to demonstrate that you are
eligible to enter and to comply with the entry instructions and other juried photography
competition rules set forth herein. Any violation of the competition rules may result in your
disqualification, in the sole discretion of Berkeley County Library System (BCLS).  BCLS reserves
the right to disqualify you if, among other reasons, you breach the warranties you are required to
make, you have failed  to secure permission from persons whose recognizable images appear in the
photo, or your entry is lost, late, incorrect, or incompletely received, for any reason whatsoever.
BCLS further reserves the right to disqualify  you, and to seek damages against you to the fullest
extent permitted by law, if you intentionally or recklessly damage or otherwise undermine the
legitimate operation of the competition, or attempt to do so. Such actions may violate criminal and
civil laws.   In the event that BCLS cannot complete the juried competition as planned, BCLS
reserves the right to cancel, terminate, modify, or suspend the juried competition. This could be
due to technical failures, tampering, or other causes beyond the control of BCLS that corrupt or
affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of the juried
competition.  By entering this juried competition, you agree to release the BCLS and its
affiliates, and their officers, directors, agents, attorneys, employees and representatives, from
any and all liability for any claims, demands, causes of action, damages, judgments or settlements,
or for any losses or injury to earnings, profits, or goodwill, or for any direct, indirect,
special, punitive, incidental or consequential damages, including attorney’s fees and court costs,
or in connection with any prize won, any misuse or malfunction of any prize awarded, or any use by
BCLS of the artwork submitted.  Artwork will be available for pickup starting June 23rd. Any
artwork that is not picked up within 30 days will be donated to a local charity if we are unsuccessful in contacting the artist.
